I have a thryoid tumor and am having surgery next week. Ive been drinking during my attacks because it helps them pass. They are sooo bad. I cant swallow, sometimes i cant breathe for a litle bit and begin to lose my vision. my heart races,i feel pressure on my chest and i feel like im dying or im going to lose my mind. I know drinking was probably the wrong way to handle them and now ive been relying on it so much i dont know any other way to handle it. Its terrifying. The doctor gave me valium but its not working. will removing the nodule help my panic attacks?

I have had depression for about 18 years now but started getting panic attacks about 3 years ago – it happened at work & I didnt know what was going on I was working 24/7 rotating roster in my job in a call centre but after I had my baby I didint want to work nights any more – I was put into a completely different section but was given no training – I begged for training as I didnt know what I was doing and was geting things wrong all the time – my supervisors said I didnt need the training as my stats were perfect – anyway one day I answered a call and suddenly it was like the world slowed down and I sped up – I was scared I didnt know what it was – after that I was scared of it happening again and eventually couldnt walk into work at all – now I get them all the time only now I have adrenalin surges usually for no reason at all eg watching TV or just using the internet etc & I now need valium to make them stop – how are you effected & what do you do to end the attack?

This isn’t about me. I’m not physically addicted to Xanax and don’t plan to be. But I’m curious how long it takes as compared to the other benzos. I’ve heard people claim to take it for a week and then have a seizure from stopping. (As opposed to Valium, which takes several months of addiction to do this much damage.) Is it really that addictive?

Xanax just puts me to sleep and Valium is addictive. I’m always on edge and go through periods of depression and I tend to get angry at work. What can I take that will allow me to function at work and calm my nerves at the same time?
