Is it possible to suddenly develop postpartum depression when your baby is 6 months old?

I had this with my middle child so I know what it feels like. My youngest is 6 months old and I am suddenly feeling symptoms of postpartum depression. I was just fine until now. I breastfeed only and there have been no changes with that at all. I have been losing about half a pound every day or two also, for no reason at all. Is it just hormones being goofy or something else?

it is possible postpartum depression can occur at any time…i would go to a doctor to just make sure and you might want to let someone know in your family who lives with you

I don’t think it really matters if you call it ‘post-partum’ depression or not – if you feel low then you need to do something to improve your well-being. Good luck

I just went to the doctor for my 6 week checkup and she told me to be on the lookout for signs of postpartum depression for 1 year. She said even though your body is back to normal, it takes a year for the rest of your hormones to get back to a normal state. I would call you doctor as they will want to see you so you can get help. Good luck!

Yes, it is. Don’t worry. I think alot of women go thru changes that first year and ups and downs.
Go to your dr and all should be fine. Probbly just hormones.

Yes. A psychologist who facilitated a New Moms Circle I attended after having my baby said that they consider it post-partum if it happens up to 12 months after babys birth. So it should be treated as such.
Tell your doc. They will want to keep an eye on you. Since you have been through it before, you know what it is like.
    Good Luck.

Yes you can develop post-partum depression any time during the first year.

Also some women that previously had post partum depression will develop depression at other times.

However with the weight loss it would be a very good idea to have your thyroid levels checked and low thyroid is also common after birth, can cause depression. While its more commonly associated with weight gain when it causes depression it can also cause weight loss. While you are there you should get your iron and insulin levels checked as well.
