For years but miss the point of real healing which comes when the person learns.
For years but its shame that all these therapists have license to them for years but its true.

thats what CBT is, anxiety goes in circles and it will eventually fizzle out. if you give them reasurance they settle for a bit but deep in there mind they still believe what ever is worrying them is still improtant and therefore carry on the anxious cycle

I disagree with a lot of this advice. The best thing to do (which has helped me). Is to sit the person down… tell them to breathe deeply in through the nose and out the mouth. Get them a glass of water, or juice. and remind them it’s just a panic attack. it won’t kill them. hang in there with them to show support.

  5. robshaps says:

Actually, if you follow this advice, you are helping to keep the anxiety cycle going. The need for comfort and reassurance is sometimes the fuel for the anxiety. The person needs to learn how to soothe themselves – as daunting as that may be.

I fight the last comment, i dont think this video meant to be something to help panic attacks themselves… it was more on how to just be there and as someone that suffer from them everyday i applaude this video for one simple reason …. at no point did the person say garbage like just calm down … If youve had a panic attack the words calm down are prolly the worst you can hear…. so take this vid for what it is … I have and i think it was well done.

this is a gross distortion of what an anxiety disorder really constitutes… anxiety is the most common mental illness experienced by Americans today, “being there” for someone is the tip of the iceberg. Getting to the root of the anxiety is the challenge. The suggestion that you can overcome an anxiety or panic disorder through basic means is absurd. This is a neurological problem that has yet to be properly addressed.

Read Explaining colours to a blind man. Not only will it enlighten many as to what living with a mental illness is like, it also gives comfort to those sufferers who think there is no hope and that they are alone. It is very informative, sometimes shocking but also very funny in parts. All in all, a good read and highly recommended.
