i have had panic attacks since i was 5. they have gotten a lot worse since then. I am now 16 years old and have been experiencing terrible panic attacks for the past 3 days. My boyfriend has tried to do everything he can to help me, but to be honest, neither of us have a clue how to handle them. I get so worked up it makes me sick to my stomach and i cant stop shaking. How can i calm myself down?

i know it may sounds crazy, but it is a true story!

a women i know was suffering from horrible panic attacks which seem to become worse by time. one time there was a visiting doc i one of the big health center in thier area! imagine she need one session only- although she was suffering for about15 years-

simply the doc ask her about her symptoms & wrote them down in a paper after she finished describing her symtoms..

he simply torn the paper to small pieces in front of her & said you see they are gone- & if you really want to be heald; when ever you feel an attack is about to start: pretend to by buzy with something else – switch your focus &never give it any attention! it took her less than a month! believe it or not!

hope you get the idea! best wishes!

The first thing you need to to is see a doctor. The reason is because even though this presents itself as a “mental” disorder, this is actually a physiological disorder in your brain. A physcistrist can get you on some meds that can stableize your anxiety.

Once you start getting on the right meds, then I suggest you see a therapist so you can find out what’s causing all of these panic attacks and learn how to work through them. You must trust me on this one. I’ve had anxiety for most of my life as well, and I’m now able to say that my quality of life is much higher then it was before.

You CAN beat this!!! You just need the right help.

    Good Luck,

I have had panic attacks too, i know the feeling its like hell on earth. first i would suggest seeing a shrink, they can give you medicine to help take the edge off, if you don’t already have one or cant afford one you can go to the emergency room, while panic attacks are not life threatening, they can provide immediate care at the ER. give you some meds and refer you to a doctor. that takes care of the crisis you are in right now. in general for panic attacks you first want to be in a safe place, your bedroom, a comfortable chair whatever works for you. control your breathing, inhale through your nose slowly and out your mouth, focus on that slow deep breaths. the next step is to create a safe place in your mind, it could be anywhere, anything and with anyone it sounds silly to say it out loud, but it could be from a favorite book or tv show or movie. create the set populate it with people become part of the plot line imagine every tiny detail and go over and over it till its perfect, create the story in your head, go where the plot takes you, or take the plot in a new direction, be yourself in the story but be yourself as you want yourself to be. immerse yourself in this world you have created and build on it. whenever you get into a panic situation close your eyes focus on your breathing and go to your world. its worked for me. let me know how things go, and remember you don’t have to live like this.
